Pokémon Distortion: Funkin'

So, ever since December 17 2022, I've gotten into FNF, more specifically the mods. I'm not about to list all the mods I've played, but the one I played then, FNF Lullaby, has kickstarted this whole thing: making Pokémon OCs, then making a website for said OCs, and even working on making games for them (still in the process of making sprites for Harmony... I should make a separate page for that project).

And one of the games I want to make is an FNF mod for them, dubbed Pokémon Distortion: Funkin' as of right now.

This includes both original songs for my OCs and covers of FNF songs... also sung by my OCs. I don't plan to ever release the final product to the public (if I even finish it to begin with), since I most definitely do not have permission from the owners to use their songs.

Organization

The following songs will be split into three categories:

  1. Originals. These songs only use my characters, and the music was created specifically for them.
  2. Crossovers. These songs are still original songs, but feature characters that aren't mine, in addition to my OCs.
  3. Covers. Literally just my OCs (plus others, in some cases) singing other FNF songs. The names might be changed to fit the characters more, but the songs are most definitely not mine.

The songs won't be listed in a specific order, though I will try to adhere to some form of natural progression.

DOOMED vs Silver (GOODBYE)

Set in a HeartGold ROM, Gold and Silver have their first battle right outside Cherrygrove City, but something's off...

Before the song starts, the player is greeted with a character selection screen, and can choose whether to play as "Gold" or "Silver". Both have different mechanics and songcharts.

Synopsis

Having just recently stolen a Pokémon, Silver fleed toward Cherrygrove City, escaping the crime scene. At the front entrance, he bumped into the trainer he saw choosing a starter earlier. An easy first fight; his Totodile was much better than that guy's Cyndaquil. Silver challenged the trainer to a fight, determined to put this weakling in his place.

However, things didn't go as planned. While Silver's Totodile initially did some majour damage, he could now barely aim with all the smoke covering the battlefield. But fighting wasn't the only issue. There was something... off with his opponent and his Pokémon. The trainer rarely spoke, and, when he did, he spoke with an inhumanely deep voice, the sound somehow coming out distant, like it wasn't his own. A heavy shade hung over his eyes like a dark fog, and he never made eye contact with Silver; hell, he wasn't even supervising the battle! His Cyndaquil didn't look so good either, and not because of the fighting. Most Cyndaquil keep their eyes closed, but this one had its eyes wide open, a vacant stare occupying its face. The Cyndaquil constantly looked dazed and overtaxed; it was a miracle it could even fight. And fight it did.

Eventually, Silver's Totodile was defeated. The trainer was barely moving before, but, at this, he jerked into a straighter position, as if to prepare for something. Silver didn't want to stick around to know what it was, as a dread beset him. The trainer was staring directly at him, and Silver could finally see his eyes. They were soulless; like staring into an abyss, there was nothing there. Yet, Silver could feel it; there was a force guiding the man with malicious intent, and he was just in the way. Silver scrambled to retrieve his Pokémon and get away, but he dropped his trainer card in the process. No time to get it; the man was already stooping down to collect it, his body almost sagging in the process. As he ran his fingers over the plastic, turning it over to reveal its owner's name, he twisted his body toward Silver, with one word left on his tongue: "GOODBYE". Fumbling, Silver tripped, and landed hard. Perhaps too hard, because his body started to sting. Then, it started to burn. Craning his neck to assess the damage, horror crept along Silver's face as he saw that large, black masses of something errant and jagged were engulfing chunks of his body at a time. He cried out in pain as the man just watched on, unflinching, emotionless. Silver couldn't rely on his Pokémon, as it was just defeated, and he couldn't get anyone else to help, despite his desperate wails. It was as though they were both isolated in this moment, burning and writhing in pain. After what felt like an eternity, Silver's body was completely overtaken by the mass, and both dissipated into nothingness. The man moves again. It had only been a second. He makes his way to the Pokémon Center, his journey almost at an end.

The world would end today.

Gameplay

When playing as "Gold", you get the "normal" playing experience. The song starts with the classic message: "Passerby Boy wants to battle!". Gold has shade over his eyes, and Silver looks concerned when he's at low health (and, at some point in the song, looks permanently concerned). The mechanic here is that Silver's Totodile will Scratch at certain points, lowering Gold's health. Gold can use Cyndaquil's Smokescreen to lower Totdile's accuracy, decreasing the chance of damage being dealt. Upon beating Silver, the message "DOOMED defeated Passerby Boy!" appears. He freaks out and runs to the left, off the screen, where he starts screaming in agony. As this happens, the message on-screen changes to "GOODBYE".

When playing as "Silver", things are a bit more unsettling. The beginning message shows "DOOMED has to battle!". DOOMED retains his shade, but now you can see that his movements are jerky. Same as before, Silver looks concerned when his health is low at the beginning of the song, before constantly being concerned. Cyndaquil will use Smokescreen, which obstructs the player's strumline. Totodile has to use Leer to clear it away. Upon reaching the end of the song, the ending message displays: "DOOMED is out of usable Pokémon!", before it changes to "... ... ... ...". DOOMED turns toward the camera, then the player is forced to control him instead of Silver. Silver looks extremely panicked. A bit of extra song plays, before the same ending happens, but from Silver's perspective.

Notes

  • DOOMED acts extremely strange and unnaturally in this story, because he was initially made to be a creepypasta character, and I hadn't formed a connection with him yet. His original design was to have extremely jerky movements, making it obvious he's being puppeteered. He would walk as though his front torso were being propelled, and his legs were just being dragged behind. If the viewer has experience with the supernatural, they'd see strings wrapped around his torso and neck. DOOMED could only be controlled through these strings.
    • Y-S-Y1-PE-N-5-N-N-B-N2-N/A-N/A
  • Nowadays, DOOMED can move a lot smoother, though he still has the shade over his eyes and the insanely deep voice. Now, DOOMED is controlled with mental commands, which makes him more akin to a robot in this sense (but he's still a puppet to me :3).
    • Y-S-Y1-NE-Y-5-N-N-M-N2-N/A-Y
  • The ending might seem a little inconsistent, but that's due to the intentional lack of information communicated in the synopsis. DOOMED doesn't trigger Silver's fragmentation; Silver just trips and lands off-screen, which is what starts it. Same as in the song: Silver runs off-screen and is fragmented. Either way, Silver is fragmented, and he blames and fears DOOMED for what happened.

Credit to @possessable for their possession shorthand code (and a more in-depth explanation) ^_^

(Okay, but I don't think this counts as possession? The code is still available to use for general MC stuff though, so...)
